♟️ Chess – The Basics
Players: 2
🎯 The Aim of the Game
Checkmate your opponent’s King by putting it under attack with no legal way to escape.
▶️ Getting Started
- Set up the board with a light square in the bottom-right corner.
- Place your pieces along the back row: Rook, Knight, Bishop, Queen, King, Bishop, Knight, Rook.
- The Queen always starts on her matching colour.
- Place your 8 Pawns in the row directly in front.
- White moves first, then players alternate turns.
♟️ How the Pieces Move
- King: One square in any direction.
- Queen: Any number of squares horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
- Rook: Horizontally or vertically.
- Bishop: Diagonally.
- Knight: In an L-shape. Can jump over other pieces.
- Pawn: Forward one square (or two on its first move), capturing diagonally.
🏆 How to Win
Put your opponent’s King in checkmate, meaning their King is under attack and cannot escape!

🔴 Checkers – The Basics
Players: 2
🎯 The Aim of the Game
Capture all your opponent’s pieces or block them so they have no legal moves remaining!
▶️ Getting Started
- Each player takes 12 pieces of one colour.
- Place your pieces on the dark squares of the three rows closest to you.
- Leave the two middle rows empty.
- Players take turns moving their pieces diagonally.
🔴 How to Play
- Move: Move one piece diagonally forward onto an empty dark square.
- Capture: Jump over an opponent’s piece diagonally into an empty square, removing their piece.
- Multiple Jumps: If another capture is available, keep jumping!
- Mandatory Captures: If you can capture a piece, you must.
- Become a King: Reach the opposite end of the board to crown your piece. Kings can move and capture diagonally forwards and backwards.
🏆 How to Win
Be the first player to capture all your opponent’s pieces or leave them with no legal moves!
