Spot the lies. Find the truth. Don’t get hooked!
Think you can tell when someone’s making things up? Sounds Fishy is a hilarious bluffing game where almost everyone is lying — and only one person is telling the truth!
Listen to some outrageous answers, work out who’s bluffing and try not to let the fake answers fool you.
🎯 The Aim of the Game
There are two roles:
- 🐟 The Guesser: Listen to everyone’s answers and try to identify the one person telling the truth.
- 🐠 The Fish: Give a convincing answer to the question. Depending on your fish, you’ll either be telling the truth or making something up!
Players: 4–10
Playing Time: Approximately 15 minutes
🃏 Getting Started
- Choose one player to be the Guesser.
- Give each of the other players a fish, keeping its identity hidden from the Guesser.
- There should be one Blue Fish (the truth-teller), with the remaining players using Red Fish (the bluffers).
- Draw a Question Card and read the question aloud.
- The Blue Fish secretly checks the correct answer. Everyone else must invent a believable answer!
▶️ How to Play
1. Ask the Question
The Guesser reads a question aloud for everyone to hear.
For example:
What unusual item was once used as money?
2. Give Your Answers
Going around the group, each Fish gives their answer.
- 🔵 Blue Fish: Must tell the truth.
- 🔴 Red Fish: Must invent a fake answer.
The Guesser listens carefully and tries to work out who’s telling the truth.
3. Start Fishing!
Once everyone has answered, the Guesser starts eliminating players they think are lying.
Choose one Fish at a time and reveal whether they’re a Red Fish or the Blue Fish.
🐠 Catch a Red Fish?
Great work! You’ve spotted a liar and can continue fishing for more points.
🐟 Catch the Blue Fish?
Oh no! You’ve eliminated the truth-teller, and your turn ends immediately.
4. Know When to Stop
You don’t have to eliminate every Red Fish!
After successfully catching a Red Fish, you can choose to stop and keep the points you’ve earned.
Or you can risk it all and try to catch another liar!
🏆 How to Score
The Guesser earns points by correctly identifying Red Fish.
- Catch a Red Fish: Earn points for each successful catch.
- Stop Fishing: Bank your points for that round.
- Catch the Blue Fish: Lose the points you’ve earned during that turn.
- Red Fish Players: Earn points when they successfully fool the Guesser.
Use the scoring system included with your Travel Edition to keep track of everyone’s points.
🥇 How to Win
Take turns being the Guesser so everyone has a chance to spot the lies.
After everyone has had a turn, the player with the most points wins!
For a quick game at Houseblend, you can also skip the scoring and simply take turns guessing.
Remember: The most convincing answer isn’t always the right one!
