Think fast, find a word and beat the clock!
Tapple is a fast-paced word game where players race against a 10-second timer to name things that fit a category. Sounds easy? Just wait until all the obvious letters have been taken!
Perfect for a little friendly competition, Tapple will have everyone thinking on their feet.
👥 Players: 2–8
⏳ Playing Time: 10–20 minutes
🎯 Objective: Be the last player standing each round and collect three category cards to win!
🎲 Getting Started
- Place the Tapple wheel in the middle of the table so everyone can reach it.
- Switch on the wheel and make sure all the letter buttons are reset.
- Draw a category card and choose a category for everyone to play.
- Choose someone to go first. Play continues clockwise.
That’s it — you’re ready to play!
⏱️ How to Play
Each player has just 10 seconds to think of an answer!
- Choose a word: Name something that fits the category and starts with an available letter.
- Press the letter: Push down the first letter of your answer on the Tapple wheel.
- Reset the timer: Press the centre button to give the next player their 10 seconds.
- Pass the turn: The next player must find a different answer using a letter that hasn’t already been pressed.
💡 Example
The category is Animals.
- Player 1 says Elephant and presses E.
- Player 2 says Tiger and presses T.
- Player 3 says Lion and presses L.
Now E, T and L are unavailable for the rest of the round!
As more letters disappear, finding a new answer gets trickier.
🚨 What Happens If You Run Out of Time?
You’re eliminated from the round if you:
- Fail to give an answer and press the timer before the 10 seconds are up.
- Give an answer that doesn’t fit the category and can’t correct it in time.
- Press a letter for an unacceptable answer.
If players disagree about an answer, the majority decides whether it counts.
Don’t worry — you’re only out for that round, not the whole game!
🔄 What If All the Letters Are Used?
If every letter has been pressed and more than one player is still standing, it’s time for overtime!
Reset the wheel and choose a new category.
This time, each remaining player must give two answers starting with different letters, all within 10 seconds.
If players are still tied after that, play another category requiring three answers per turn, and keep increasing until there’s a winner.
🏆 How to Win
The last player remaining wins the round and collects the category card.
The first player to collect three category cards wins the game!
Want a longer challenge? Agree to play to four or five cards instead.
